Notable San Francisco: 1/8–1/14

Wednesday 1/8: E. J. Koh will be reading from her new memoir, The Magical Language of Others. She will be joined in conversation by Monica Sok (A Nail the Evening Hangs On). Green Apple Books on the Park in San Francisco at 7:30 p.m.

Thursday 1/9: David L Ulin, editor of the Library of America’s Didion: The 1960s and 70s, will be discussing this new collection alongside Oscar Villalon, managing editor at ZYZZYVA. Mechanics’ Institute in San Francisco at 6:30 p.m.

Beth Piatote will be reading from The Beadworkers, her debut collection of short stories. Books Inc. in Berkeley at 7 p.m.

Friday 1/10: Sally Rooney (Normal People) will be in conversation with Heidi Julavits for City Arts and Lectures. Sydney Goldstein Theater in San Francisco at 7:30 p.m. ($29, tickets required).

Saturday 1/11: Come hear zine readings a night before the Bay Area Queer Zine Fest! E.M. Wolfman Bookstore in Oakland at 7 p.m.

Monday 1/13: Michael Alenyikov (Ivan & Misha), Notable SF columnist Nishant Batsha, and Rebecca Winterer (The Singing Ship) will be reading as part of the Odd Mondays series. Folio Books in San Francisco at 6:30 p.m.

Otessa Moshfegh (My Year of Rest and Relaxation) will be reading as part of City Arts and Lectures. Sydney Goldstein Theater in San Francisco at 7:30 p.m. ($29, tickets required).

Tuesday 1/14: ZYZZYVA will be celebrating their Bay Area issue. The night will feature readings from contributors Meg Hurtado Bloom, Rita Bullwinkel, Ingrid Rojas Contreras, Chia-Chia Lin, Kevin Simmonds, and Paul Wilner. The evening will be moderated by Oscar Villalon, managing editor at ZYZZYVA. City Lights Booksellers in San Francisco at 7 p.m.

Mathangi Subramanian will be celebrating the paperback release of her debut novel, A People’s History of Heaven. Books Inc. in Campbell at 7 p.m.
